For Educators

As educators you serve as influencers, guides, disciplinarians, and more. In relation to voluntourism, however, there are two very distinct elements of your role which you may want to consider: 1) stimulating and exhuming knowledge, wisdom, and insight from the hearts and minds of current and future generations through travel; and 2) introducing the value of planetary stewardship to these same young people through voluntary service.

Ever-broadening world views are necessary to address the challenges humanity presently faces, and will continue to face, as over-loaded systems implode, stressed by the multiplication of human beings and their concomitant needs and desires.

Educators have relied on voluntary service as a learning tool for decades; in the 21st Century, this relationship has expanded to embrace voluntourism: the prospect of combining positive, socio-economic impact for destinations and residents and transformative, educational engagement for students. The VolunTourist.org serves as a space for interacting with like-minded Educators via Forums or increasing your understanding of this emerging travel genre via Articles available throughout the website.
